When Your Family Van Is Allied

Okay, so Brad and Angelina probably don’t call the movers or hitch up the U-Haul before they head off to their next exotic locale, but moving kids is moving kids.  The Super Couple is catching flack these days for not creating roots for their — how many kids do they have now?  That’s not important.  The question is how much is too much when it comes to moving?  The Jolie-Pitts have “lived” in six cities in the past two years, which Manhattan-based psychotherapist Puja Hall says is too much.

What does he know?

Clearly this social worker lives a much different lifestyle than the Brangelina Bunch.

Here’s a story of a lovely lady, who was helping out some very lovely kids.  All of them had little help before they met her, and now they’re stinkin’ rich.  Here’s a story, of man named Luscious, who was busy with yearnings of his own.  He was married, that’s another story.  He still felt all alone.  Then the one day when the lady met this fellow, and they knew it was much more than a hunch.  They’d adopt and make babies for a family.   That’s the way they all became the Brangelina Bunch.

Whew!  Glad I got that out of my system.

We’re not all jet setters, but we are more mobile than ever before.  Whether you’re swapping states to grasp an opportunity to manage an Orange Julius at a new mall, or cashing in a huge signing bonus to lead up the latest division of Acme Computer Widgets R Us, it’s disruptive to your family.  No doubt you make a move to improve your family’s situation, either financial or otherwise.  Maybe you move closer to other family members who need your help.  Whatever the reasons, you’ve weighed them carefully.  The question remains, when does the stress of moving outweigh the benefits?

Maybe it’s not really that traumatic at all.  Kids develop a lot of good skills when they move.  They learn to handle change and make new friends.  They learn that the world does not revolve around them.  Surely there are crucial times when you wouldn’t want to move a child, but those are specific to your child and your family.  The most important thing is not where you unpack your boxes, but how strong your family unit remains.  The Pitts may have a stronger bond because of all the moves.  Home after all has nothing to do with where you live.  It’s where your heart is held and happy-fied.

  1. My family moved tons of times when I was a kid and it never bothered me. I think the only side effect has been that, every once in awhile, I get the urge to haul out the boxes and start packing. I think Brad and Angelina are the same as the rest of society. They do what they have to in order to make a living and they try to do the best by their kids that they can.

By the way, cute song. What’s the release date?
